Thank you for this wonderful photo of Max and Doreen.
Doreen is my great aunt (my grandmother’s sister from the Platt side of the family) and I’ve never seen this photo.
It’s great to discover these stories and photos!
Hi Bonnie – do you know what your Great Aunt, Doreen Platt, did in the 1930s? Was she an actress? I have a reference of her going to dinner at Quaglinos in 1939 with a character I am researching, thanks Tom
Hi Tom,
No, my great aunt Doreen was most certainly not an actress.
Doreen, her brothers and sisters, social circles were mostly the upper echelons of British society and had a wide variety of friends.
Doreen (and her brothers and sisters) inherited a vast fortune in their own right.
Doreen, married Max Niven (David Niven’s brother).
Valerie (Doreen’s sister) married Denis Compton (the cricketer and Arsenal football player).
The Platt sisters’ beauty is also mentioned in David Niven’s book ‘The moon’s a balloon’.
Quaglinos – that was one of my favourite restaurants/cocktail bar in London! What a coincidence 😁
Thank you that is very helpful.
